How To Install Brass Compression Fittings?

Installation Method:

Saw off a seamless steel pipe of suitable length and remove the port burrs. The pipe end is perpendicular to the axis, and the angle tolerance is not more than 0.5°.

If the pipe needs to be folded, the length of the straight line from the pipe end to the elbow shall not be less than three times the nut.

Put the nut and sheet sleeve on the seamless pipe. Pay attention to the nut and direction, do not install it backward.

Apply lubricating oil to the thread and jacket of the pre-installed joint body, insert the pipe into the joint body, and tighten the nut by hand (the pipe must be inserted all the way).

Tighten the nut until the ferrule catches the pipe, such a turning point can be sensed (pressure point) by increasing the tightening torque.

After reaching the pressure point, tighten the pressure screw 1/2.

Remove the pre-assembled joint and check the insertion of the edge of the sleeve. The visible raised band must fill the space on the end face of the ferrule. The ferrule can be rotated slightly, but cannot be moved axially.

Apply lubricant to the thread of the connecting body during the actual installation, and tighten the nut with a compression cap so that the tightening force can be felt. Then screw in another 1/2 turn to install.


Installation Instructions:

When installing the ferrule joint, the inside and outside of the joint connected to the ferrule joint should be cleaned, the joint must be polished flat, and the surface must be free of burrs and uneven surfaces.

After the steel pipe is embedded in the ferrule joint body, the strength of the ferrule should not be too large to start tightening. The ferrule should be gradually tightened to the tail or 2/3 of the thread, and the ferrule should be tightened with a wrench.

Tube fittings are suitable for non-corrosive or corrosive media such as oil, water, and gas. The size of the sealing pipe joint is flexible, the connection with the pipeline is firm, and the sealing performance is good.

Therefore, it is widely used in the petroleum, chemical industry, light industry, textile, national defense, metallurgy, aviation, ships, and other fields. The ferrule-type connection can also be used in various mechanical engineering, machine tools, and other hydraulic transmission pipelines.

Installation Standard:

The ferrule-type joint has the advantages of simple structure, convenient use, and no need for welding. After years of practice, the author summed up some experience and achieved good results. However, in medium and high-pressure hydraulic systems, if the operation is improper, it will often lead to leakage and affect its use.

①The preloading force should not be too large. There are mainly ferrule longitudinal pipe joints, ferrule end longitudinal pipe joints, ferrule tee pipe joints, etc.

The correct way is to use what kind of joint body is used to connect one end of the pipeline, and the corresponding connection end is pre-installed with the same type of joint, which can avoid leakage problems to the greatest extent.

The specific method is to use the joint body as the mother body and press the nut and the jacket on the pipe. Small-diameter fittings can be pre-installed on the vise length. If the brass compression fittings are severely deformed during the pre-assembly process, the sealing effect will be lost. After the pipe is cut, use a grinding wheel and other tools to smooth the saw blade, then remove the burrs, and then dry it with high-pressure air. A dedicated preloader is generally required.

②The end face of the pipe should be flat. The inner edge of the ferrule should happen to be embedded in the outer wall of the tube, and the ferrule should not be visibly deformed.

③ During pre-installation, the coaxial between the pipe and the joint body should be maintained as much as possible. If the pipe deviation is too large, the seal will fail.

④ The pre-installation of Brass compression fittings is an important link that directly affects the reliability of sealing. The tightening force of φ6-10mm ferrule is 64-115N, φ16mm-259N, φ18mm is 450N. When connecting pipes, assemble them according to the specified tightening force.

  • When connecting the pipeline, it should be tightened once to avoid multiple disassemblies, otherwise, the sealing function will deteriorate.
  • When connecting pipes, the pipes should have sufficient deformation allowance to avoid tensile stress.
  • Fillers, such as sealants, cannot be added.
  • When connecting pipelines, lateral force should be avoided. The excessive lateral force will lead to poor sealing. Some people apply a sealant to the ferrule in order to achieve a better sealing effect.
